All CJ's have solid axles suspended by Superide leaf springs. The spring rate has been reduced as much as possible to emphasize suspension travel and a more compliant ride. They have proven to stand up to serious use, even on vehicles equipped with a V-8 and/or winch, while providing a great ride.

76-86 Jeep CJ with Superlift 4" lift kit

The respectable CJ is the heart and soul of the modern Jeep. Although these vehicles are beginning to become classics, they still offer a solid platform to build a real world off-road performer. Rubicon Express offers two types of suspension available for the CJ: spring-over axle or spring-under axle designs. Both offer distinct qualities and the buyer should understand the advantages of each before making a decision.

Spring-under: Retains the stock design by keeping the leaf packs under the axle. Both 2.5" and 4.5" lift heights are available in a complete bolt-on package. Highlights of the kit are features like greaseable shackles and bushings, Extreme-Duty springs for smooth ride and long lasting service life, great all around handling, great load capacity and built-in conversion to 2.5" wide rear springs for added strength and interchangeability with YJ Wrangler springs. This easy to install package will amaze you with the increase in wheel travel and stability on the trail.

Spring-over: By relocating the stock springs on top of the axles, 5.5" of lift is generally obtained. One can also achieve more lift by using our 1.5" lift SOA leafs for a total of 7" of suspension lift. In order to perform this conversion, you will need to do the following: weld new spring pads to axles, extend brake lines, weld on new shock mounts, install longer shocks, install drop pitman arm, install CV style rear driveshaft and install new u-bolts and possibly new spring plates. The potential wheel travel of a spring-over conversion is unmatched, as is under-axle clearance for rocks, mud and snow. Disadvantages are higher center of gravity and greater tendency for axle wrap. Installation does require welding. Call for assistance in building a custom kit for your applications.

RE5525 4.5" 

Rubicon Extreme-Duty spring-under kits are favorites among the classic die hard Jeeper. These are similar to the YJ kit yet include extra hardware, allowing the use of 2.5" wide springs up front. Whether you are out running tight technical trails, or just cruising the back country with the family, this is the best suspension system money can buy for a CJ. CV Yoke recommended. Tire size: 33x12.50. With 1" body lift 35x12.50

RE5535 2.5" 

The Softride springs manufactured by Skyjacker use tapered leaves to yield a lower spring rate and better travel, Teflon wear pads to help reduce interleaf friction, a "bolt" style clip to reduce leaf friction and shot-peening to compress the steel and increase its tensile strength. Kits for 55-86 Jeeps include front & rear Softride leaf springs, bushings and u-bolts. 

Steering correction and shocks purchased separately. 

Pitman arm recommended for 4" lifts.

Black Diamond is world renown for Jeep lift systems, due in no small part to their leaf spring designs.  Black Diamond springs have soft spring rates that give you full suspension articulation and unbeatable ride quality.  The individual leaf plates are tapered, and anti-friction pads positioned at the leaf tips where friction is greatest. The Rough Country line has been restored to incorporate new "luxury ride" technology. Each double tapered leaf with Teflon pads was specifically engineered for each individual vehicle to provide the best ride possible. 2.5" lift includes & rear leaf springs with bushings & u-bolts, 4 Heckethorn shocks. Shock boots not included. 

76-86 4" lift includes military wrap front and rear leaf springs, u-bolts, polyurethane bushings, pitman arm, front sway-bar links, transfer case drop kit, and 4 Heckethorn Hydro 8000 series shocks. Shock boots not included. 

The Shackle Inversion kit allows for relocating your front spring shackles to the rear mount for a smoother ride. No welding is required. This kit will work for lifted or factory height vehicles, and gives about 1/2" of lift.
